Wind River Rock takes on a settled, natural appearance after it is placed across an open landscape area. Its smooth, rounded stones carry a water-worn character that works well beside planting borders, decorative runoff routes, and water features. Earth-toned color variation helps the material blend into outdoor spaces without looking harsh or manufactured.
On Wyoming ground, rapid snowmelt can expose soil and move water across areas that were dry through much of the season. Place River Rock as the visible finish after the drainage route and surrounding grade are set, allowing the stone cover to follow the path water will take. This can help limit erosion in an exposed landscape channel while keeping the feature easy to recognize. The material also avoids the breakdown of organic mulch, making it a practical choice for decorative areas intended to remain covered over time.

Common Uses
Landscaping & Garden Design
Use river rock to define planting beds, edge fence lines, cover ground around trees, or create a focal area. As an alternative to natural mulch, its varied shape and color bring texture to the landscape.
Drainage Solutions
Water can pass around the rounded stones, so river rock suits downspout runs, French drains, drainage swales, and similar work. It helps hold soil in place while moving runoff clear of foundations and lower areas, useful when April snowmelt arrives quickly.
Water Features & Ponds
Use river rock around pond liners, beneath fountains, or along waterfall sections. The smooth stones and mixed natural tones give water features an understated, natural appearance.
Decorative Accents
Add river rock along walkways, in rock gardens, or throughout xeriscape planting areas for a finished look. Arrange it with native plant groupings, stepping stones, or pavers to connect the design.
Why Choose Wind River Rock
Durability
Organic mulches break down over time, but river rock does not decompose, fade, or crumble in the same way. Once placed, it can remain useful for decades without replacement.
Low Maintenance
River rock avoids the annual replenishment associated with wood mulch. Rinsing the stones occasionally with a garden hose helps keep their color looking clean.
Eco-Friendly
As a natural material without added dyes or preservatives, river rock does not introduce those materials into the soil. Water can move through the stone layer, and xeriscape plans may need less water.
Aesthetic Appeal
Natural color shifts and softly rounded stones bring a settled look to landscape beds. River rock fits traditional and modern layouts and can sharpen a property's overall appearance.

Pretty border, a few oversized rocks
Two and a half tons of river rock for a dry creek bed style border along the driveway in Laramie. Overall it drains and looks the way we wanted.

Replaced the junipers with something better
Six tons of river rock came from Wyoming Rock Supply for a foundation bed wrapping around three sides of the house outside Douglas, replacing a strip of dying juniper bushes. The rock is exactly the mix of browns and tans we wanted, rounded and clean with no dust to wash off before it went down. Spreading it over the landscape fabric took most of a weekend, and it has held its place through wind and a couple of good spring rains without settling into the dirt underneath.

Sharp look against the log siding
Ordered three tons of river rock from Wyoming Rock Supply for a downspout splash area and foundation bed at our place outside Cody. Good mix of sizes, rounded and clean, no weeds coming up through the landscape fabric underneath. Looks sharp against the log siding and has not shifted through spring runoff.
