“Pine Haven's clay turns into a mess anytime the dog gets in the run after rain, so we put down 3/8 inch pea gravel over the whole pad. A ton and a half handled it, spread easy with a rake, and it drains within an hour now. The driver had it out within two days of the order, quicker than the local yard quoted us.”

At a ranch-road drainage detail, runoff still needs to be directed where it belongs before a loose surface material is selected. 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel can finish nearby walks, sitting areas, and drainage features with smooth, rounded pieces that allow water to pass down. Its natural earth colors suit an informal landscape setting without creating a uniform, manufactured look.
On gumbo clay and alkali flats, snowmelt can linger after deep frost and freeze-thaw affect the ground. Make the support beneath the gravel firm before installation, particularly in a walking or seating area. A stable layer below helps provide a sound setting for the loose finish, while the pea gravel remains comfortable underfoot and does not decompose like organic mulch.

Common Uses
Patios & Outdoor Living Areas
For a patio that lets water drain through, use natural pea gravel. The rounded pieces are pleasant to walk on and fit naturally with flagstone, brick borders, and patio furniture for an informal outdoor setting.
Walkways & Garden Paths
Use pea gravel to build a simple walking route through beds and around the landscape. Brick, stone, or steel edging keeps the material from spreading and sets a neat boundary alongside the plantings.
Playgrounds & Play Areas
For children's play zones, pea gravel's rounded stones are less harsh underfoot than angular aggregate. It drains well, avoids the insect issues associated with wood mulch, and leaves a natural-looking cover over the ground.
Drainage & Ground Cover
Place pea gravel by foundations, beneath downspouts, in drainage swales, or where turf will not establish. Water can move through the stone while the area keeps a neat appearance throughout the year.
Why Choose 3/8" Natural Pea Gravel
Comfortable & Safe
Rounded pea gravel is easy on bare feet and among the more comfortable aggregate surfaces for walking. With no sharp stone edges, it also works well in play spaces and areas with steady pedestrian use.
Beautiful Natural Colors
A blend of warm, earthy shades gives pea gravel texture and character in landscape work. Because the color runs through the stone itself, it will not fade, chip, or wash away over time as dyed products can.
Excellent Drainage
Pea gravel's consistent small pieces leave room for water to pass through, helping keep water from standing near foundations, patios, and garden beds. That can provide drainage without a complicated drainage system, including where gumbo clay holds water.
Minimal Upkeep
Pea gravel does not break down each year as wood mulch does, so it continues serving its purpose with little routine care. Rinsing it occasionally with a garden hose can refresh its appearance.

Daycare play area survives daily use
We wanted something soft for the play area under the swing set at the daycare outside Burns, and pea gravel turned out right, rounded enough that scraped knees are rare even with a dozen kids on it at once. Ordered five tons and had it delivered up to the fence line, then spread it with edging already in place so nothing has migrated into the lawn. Cheaper than the rubber mulch the district wanted us to buy, and the kids like the sound it makes.

Barefoot Friendly by the Fire Pit
Our new fire pit near Ranchester needed something soft underfoot instead of flagstone, so we went with pea gravel around the steel edging. Two tons filled the circle nicely, and it hasn't scattered much even with wind off the ridge. Cheaper than buying bagged stuff a few sacks at a time.
