“Ordered seven tons of gravel sand from Wyoming Rock Supply as a base under a paver patio near Frannie. Coarse enough to compact hard, drains better than the fine sand we tried on a smaller job last year. Pavers haven't shifted through a full season of rain and foot traffic.”

Everything You Need to Know About Gravel Sand

Crusher run is a specially blended aggregate consisting of crushed stone mixed with stone dust and fine particles, creating a material that compacts into one of the densest, most stable base layers available. Unlike single-sized aggregates, the combination of angular stone pieces and fine dust fills virtually every void space when compacted, resulting in a rock-solid foundation that resists settling, shifting, and water infiltration. This makes crusher run the preferred base material for driveways, patios, walkways, and structural construction projects.

The key to crusher run's exceptional performance lies in its gradation. The larger stone particles provide structural strength and load-bearing capacity, while the fine dust fills the gaps between them, binding everything together into a cohesive mass. When properly moistened and compacted with a plate compactor or roller, crusher run achieves density levels that rival engineered base materials at a fraction of the cost. This self-cementing action means the base actually becomes stronger over time as particles continue to settle and bind.

Crusher run is the material of choice for professionals who understand that a strong project starts with a strong base. Whether you are building a paver patio, constructing a shed foundation, or preparing a driveway subbase, crusher run provides the stable, unyielding foundation that prevents cracking, settling, and premature failure of the surface material above it. Available in bulk delivery, it is an economical solution for projects that demand maximum base performance.

Common Uses

Driveway & Parking Subbase

Use crusher run beneath driveways and parking spaces as a compacted support layer. It forms a firm base that helps limit ruts, settlement, and wear from vehicle traffic, including on roads that face Wyoming's spring melt.

Patio and Walkway Base

For pavers, flagstone, and concrete, compact crusher run first to form an even support layer. It helps keep hardscape surfaces in place and reduces later settling or shifting.

Pads for Sheds and Structures

For sheds, outdoor structures, hot tubs, and gazebos, install crusher run as a level, compacted foundation layer. It helps distribute the load and reduces settling that could affect the structure.

Site Grading and Preparation

Fill depressions and establish the needed grade with crusher run before building begins. After compaction, it provides a stable area for construction equipment and jobsite activity.

Why Choose Gravel Sand

Tight-Compacting Material

Crushed rock combined with fine dust packs into open spaces during compaction. The result is a dense, stable base material that helps resist movement and settlement under heavy loads.

Moisture-Bound Material

With moisture and compaction, crusher run fines interlock with the larger pieces of stone to make a cohesive layer. This bonding can lessen the need for additional stabilizers.

Cost-Effective Base

Crusher run can provide a construction base at a lower cost than many engineered alternatives. Its availability and simple placement make it useful across many aggregate projects.

Common Base Uses

Crusher run works as a base beneath driveways, foundations, and structural pads. It can also support grading and site-preparation work.

Strong pour, a few pebbles to sift

Six tons of gravel sand for mixing concrete on a small barn foundation near Shell. Mixed up fine, strong batch every time.

Solid base, ruts left in the yard

We used twelve tons of gravel sand as base material under a paver walkway and a small concrete apron outside Otto, mixing some of it directly into the concrete and using the rest for base leveling. The sand itself is coarse and consistent, mixed up strong for the concrete portion and compacted firm under the pavers without any soft spots showing up later.

Pavers steady after a season of rain
