“Fixed a soft spot at the top of our driveway outside Dubois where the truck kept spinning out every winter. Wyoming Rock Supply delivered seven tons and the driver dumped it right at the trouble spot instead of the whole driveway, which is exactly what we needed. Packed in hard within a week and the spinning has stopped for good.”

Angular crushed stone

After placement and compaction, Pit Run should read as a unified working base rather than a scatter of loose rock. That matters on ranch roads, corral surfacing, and lease pads where wind-packed snow can melt quickly over gumbo clay or alkali ground. The angular rock is blended with fine material, allowing open spaces to fill as the material is worked and pressed into place.

Shape the subgrade to shed meltwater, then place Pit Run in controlled lifts and compact each lift before adding more material. Careful compaction helps the layer carry traffic through spring thaw and gives the surface above a steadier foundation. In the Powder River Basin, the Laramie Plains, and other exposed areas, managing water and compaction together is more useful than relying on base material alone.

Common Uses

Driveway & Parking Subbase

Use crusher run beneath driveways and parking spaces as a compacted support layer. It forms a firm base that helps limit ruts, settlement, and wear from vehicle traffic, including on roads that face Wyoming's spring melt.

Patio and Walkway Base

For pavers, flagstone, and concrete, compact crusher run first to form an even support layer. It helps keep hardscape surfaces in place and reduces later settling or shifting.

Pads for Sheds and Structures

For sheds, outdoor structures, hot tubs, and gazebos, install crusher run as a level, compacted foundation layer. It helps distribute the load and reduces settling that could affect the structure.

Site Grading and Preparation

Fill depressions and establish the needed grade with crusher run before building begins. After compaction, it provides a stable area for construction equipment and jobsite activity.

Why Choose Pit Run

Tight-Compacting Material

Crushed rock combined with fine dust packs into open spaces during compaction. The result is a dense, stable base material that helps resist movement and settlement under heavy loads.

Moisture-Bound Material

With moisture and compaction, crusher run fines interlock with the larger pieces of stone to make a cohesive layer. This bonding can lessen the need for additional stabilizers.

Cost-Effective Base

Crusher run can provide a construction base at a lower cost than many engineered alternatives. Its availability and simple placement make it useful across many aggregate projects.

Common Base Uses

Crusher run works as a base beneath driveways, foundations, and structural pads. It can also support grading and site-preparation work.

Camper pad beats the neighbor's pea gravel

Needed a parking pad for the fifth wheel behind the house in Encampment, ordered six tons of crusher run and spread it myself with a rake and a garden roller. Locks in tighter than the pea gravel our neighbor used, no ruts even after towing it in and out a dozen times this summer.

Shop pad holds up under service trucks

A contractor buddy told me crusher run was the only way to get a shop pad in Wright to hold up under a service truck, so we ordered eighteen tons and gave it a shot. Wyoming Rock Supply sent a tri-axle within four days, and the driver spread half along the approach before dumping the rest in a pile by the slab corner like I asked. Ran the plate compactor over it twice and it locked down almost like concrete. Six months of coal trucks and equipment rolling on and off trailers, and there's not a rut or a soft spot anywhere on that pad.

Run in shed pad survives a wet spring

Nine tons of crusher run went down for a run in shed pad out by Basin where the ground stays boggy every spring off the Bighorn River bottom. Compacted up firm with just a hand tamper and a lot of patience, and the horses haven't punched through it once through a wet spring and a muddy fall.
