Treating #2 Crushed Stone as a smooth ranch-road cap is a common mistake. Its angular pieces remain coarse, and washing removes the fine material needed for a tight driving surface. That makes it better suited to construction entrances, culvert areas, ditch lining, and the rough support section of ranch roads or lease pads.

Gumbo clay and fast snowmelt can leave Wyoming access areas soft during the spring melt. Place #2 Crushed Stone in the heavy base or drainage portion of the work, then use a separate surface aggregate where traffic needs a more even face. On alkali flats or around corral and windbreak areas, plan the drainage route before placement so meltwater is directed away from the traveled area.

Common Uses

Site Access Pads

At the point where a work site joins the road, a deep layer of angular rock helps shed mud from truck tires before they reach the pavement.

Culvert & Ditch Protection

Use substantial pieces around culvert outlets and in ditch sections receiving concentrated runoff to help keep the lining from moving.

Heavy Base Layers

Set it first over soft ground or below ranch roads and equipment pads, then cover the layer with smaller stone.

High-Flow Drainage

Large voids between the pieces let heavy water flow pass through and move away from the site.

Why Choose #2 Crushed Stone

Resists Tire Movement

Stone weight and size help reduce ruts and limit how much the pieces shift under traffic.

Open Drainage

Washed stone contains no fines, leaving broad spaces for water to pass through.

Bridges Soft Ground

Large angular rock distributes loads across wet or weak subgrade.

Low Maintenance

After placement, upkeep is limited to an occasional top-up.
